StarCraft Remastered Is Live 9:02 am AugBy Conner Flynn Back in early 2017, Blizzard announced that they were working on a remastered version of StarCraft, where they would upgrade. At this point, it may be too much ask for anything more.
StarCraft has had an extraordinary run in Korea, where it was celebrated as a national pastime, an esport that rivalled traditional sports, and as the game that defied all conventional wisdom about longevity. Without them, even a game that has endured as long as StarCraft will inevitably fade away. Old-timers might appreciate StarCraft: Remastered as a deftly executed preservation project, but its greatest value could be in its ability to attract and retain new players. Since the original StarCraft has such a dedicated fan base, it only makes sense to make a remastered.
The game launched in 1998, almost twenty years ago, and yet, people still love playing it to this day. It’s amazing to see how influential and beloved StarCraft still has. It’s too early to know how SC:R has resonated with an extremely important subset of players: the newbies. StarCraft Remastered Launch Date & Price Revealed, Preorders Go Live. Apple silicon has been out for a while now so I’m not sure why the game fails to run.

And of course, the hardcore among the hardcore (including some pro gamers) have quibbled that Blizzard has failed to make the controls feel exactly like the original StarCraft. Whenever I launch SC Remastered on my MacBook Pro (M1 chip) the game just quits immediately.
SC:R’s launch was marred by bugs and technical issues, and while few of them were game-breaking, they’ve added up to form a less-than-ideal first impression.
